Pierre de Lespinois has earned a reputation in the filmmaking world for pushing boundaries. The same qualities that first earned him acclaim as a leading action-adventure director inspired him to fearlessly employ new technologies that have changed the role of live action CGI in television and film production.  One of the early pioneers of high definition filmmaking, de Lespinois has produced over $150 million in programming for ABC, CBS, HBO, National Geographic and Discovery.

With fourteen Emmy nominations, four Emmys for Directing and Producing, a technical Oscar and dozens of international awards, Pierre continues to integrate technological innovations to enhance storytelling on the large and the small screen.

Bringing dinosaurs to life for Discovery’s When Dinosaur’s Roamed America, Pierre and his team opened an entirely new world of possibilities for telling stories with the creation of photo-real, live action CGI characters—allowing real close-ups for the first time to tell a more compelling story. For this ground-breaking event, he co-invented  the Oscar winning CABLECAM©, enabling his team to film live action sequences in prehistoric scale. He continued to build on this dinosaur legacy, later producing and directing the Emmy winning Dinosaur Planet for Discovery.

Pierre’s understanding of visual effects and his knowledge of how to best capture and create those images  led him to build a visual effects house with Discovery Communications to produce the work for his projects and those of the network. The joint venture created visual effects for movies, including Fantastic Four, 300, Exorcist: The Beginning, Catwoman, Scooby Doo 2, and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.

Recognized for creating point-of-view filmmaking for athletic competition, Pierre’s venturesome spirit has taken action and sports programming to new heights for Good Morning AmericaWide World of Sports and three Winter Olympics. He created, produced and directed the multimillion-dollar series The Challengers, an action-adventure series now syndicated to more than sixty countries.

He has also created numerous prime-time network specials, including Dolphins, Whales and Us for CBS, starring Elle McPherson and Peter Horton; Science of Star Wars (three hour mini-series) for Discovery and George Lucas; the Emmy Winning Tim McCarver’s World of Adventure for ABC; Alien Planet for Discovery; and The Triangle for Tri-Star Pictures. Among other prime-time credits are Inside the Space Station, Weather X, Before We Ruled the Earth and Walking With Cavemen.

Today, Pierre’s love of adventure continues to fuel his passion for pushing the envelope with CGI in theatrical films and in setting the standard for stellar 3D film production.
